The Randolph Academy is a performing arts school that is housed in a former church building. The school in well-known for its triple threat program of acting, singing and dancing. It was apparent that the school for creativity was not projecting its image to the public through the architecture of the facility. Furthermore the common spaces of the building have unrealized
potential such as the entry, main hallway and exterior spaces. The school's administration also required a full renovation.
The first strategy was to graphically represent the exterior of the building through new entry treatment of subtle canopy structures, event banners, illuminated tower signage, segmented masonry perimeter low walls, seating areas and even creating the potential to adapt the parking area into an exterior theatre! The next strategy was to enrich select interior spaces with a reorganized entry and administration to create a stronger more impressionable entry point and convert the main hall into a social space with a gallery and seating areas.
